Welcome to Echidna Corner Freycinet – a charming and character-filled holiday home on Tasmania’s beautiful East Coast at Freycinet. Perfectly located, only a 1 minute walk to cafes, shops, and gorgeous esplanade walks, and a 50 metre stroll to the Richardsons Beach!! Come and experience it for yourself!

Echidna Corner is a warm and homely Freycinet getaway, where character meets beautiful amazing water views, with plenty of space to settle in and relax and enjoy the the outlook over Great Oyster Bay and the Hazard Mountians.

As you enter the living space you will be taken back by uninterrupted views of the water and Freycinet National Park. Relax on the couches whilst taking in the ever changing ocean conditions and light that floods over the Hazard Mountains. From your front door Richardsons beach is literally a 50m walk away which is actually the start of the Freycinet National Park.

The main level of the home features two generous bedrooms, each with a comfortable queen bed, heating and plenty of closet space. There is also a spacious bathroom with a shower, vanity and washing machine, along with a separate toilet.

The well-equipped kitchen has everything you need to enjoy an easy stay, whether you’re preparing a quick breakfast before heading out for the day or cooking dinner with fresh local produce. A coffee machine is also provided for your morning coffee. The open-plan kitchen, dining and living area is a lovely place to gather, with plenty of seating and beautiful uninterrupted views across Great Oyster Bay towards the Hazards Mountain Range.

When you’re not out exploring, there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained at home. Relax on the comfortable lounge and watch a movie on the Smart TV, challenge the family to a board game, or curl up with one of the books and reading materials provided and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Step outside onto the large wrap-around deck and make the most of the relaxed outdoor setting. Fire up the BBQ, enjoy a meal together or simply sit back with a drink and take in the beautiful surroundings.

The property is split over two levels, with the downstairs unit available for bookings of more than four guests. Downstairs, the separate fully self-contained unit provides additional space for larger groups. It includes a queen bed, a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom and washing machine, making it a great option for families or groups travelling together who appreciate having a little extra space and privacy.

Echidna Corner is ideally located for enjoying everything the Freycinet region has to offer. The beach is just a short stroll away, while Freycinet National Park and the iconic Wineglass Bay are close by for those wanting to explore Tasmania’s spectacular coastline, walking tracks and natural scenery. Spend your days swimming, walking, sightseeing or discovering the local food and wine, before returning home to relax and enjoy the views.

THE HISTORY OF ECHIDNA CORNER
In 1979 a couple from Devonport, Molly and Barry, purchased one of the last vacant blocks in Coles Bay. They paid $10,000 for what would become Echidna Corner. That was big money at the time, but the view of the Hazards and the superb fishing along the peninsula were irresistible.

Three years later, the block was levelled and the slab poured. Echidna Corner was a weekend job for them, because they were still working full-time. Barry had building experience through manual arts teaching, but the road to Coles Bay was unsealed in those days and they had to bring all their building materials with them so it was a long job. With generous help from family and friends, Echidna Corner was eventually finished, and when they retired in the early 90s, they moved to Coles Bay permanently.

It was always a summer house for them, because in the winter Molly and Barry travelled on the mainland in their campervan. Still, they continued to work on Echidna Corner, including a major external renovation during the pandemic, installing the lift as they got older and then renovating for short-term rental after they moved to Sydney in 2026 to be close to family.

Molly and Barry are sad to leave Freycinet, but glad that Echidna Corner will offer new visitors a chance to experience the outlook over the Hazards and the community spirit of Freycinet. Enjoy.
